How To Take Control of Your Data with

Step 1. Download your data from Facebook

The first step to taking control of your data with is to export it out of Facebook.

  1. Login to Facebook and go to Account Settings under the gear icon at the top right.
  2. Click "Download a copy of your Facebook data."
  3. Click "Start My Archive" and confirm.
  4. After your archive is ready you will get an email with a link to a zip file containing your data.
  5. If you encounter an error using Facebook's tool or you never receive an email then let them know.
*Please do NOT unzip the archive file when you download it. You will need to upload the exact file you downloaded from facebook, not the unzipped copy. If your computer automatically unzipped it then you will need to zip it before uploading.

Step 2. Upload and analyze your data

After you export your data from Facebook you can analyze it's potential at When you upload your data it will be verified and anonymized using a process that removes all Personal Identifiable Information (PII) to ensure your privacy.

  1. If you haven't already, create an account.
  2. Upload the .zip file you downloaded from Facebook. You can upload as many times as you like.
  3. To ensure your privacy, your data will be anonymized using a process that removes all Personal Identifiable Information (PII).
  4. After the upload is complete you will be able to view various graphs describing your data, and see how your data scores against other users' data sets in our collection.

  1. Login to

  3. Select a license for each data set you have uploaded.
